Round-trip airfare (for two) to Ecuador from his or her “home city” in the United States or Canada.
A four-week stay in a furnished apartment in historic Cuenca, Ecuador, rent paid.
$1,500 spending money to fund a comfortable overseas retirement for a month.
Ecuador is one of the best-value retirement destinations on the planet today. In Cuenca, expats on the ground report a couple can live well on $1,415 a month – or even less (housing costs included). We’ll give the winner $1,500 to fund a month’s expenses, in addition to covering the cost of rent.
WHAT WE ASK…
Though you don’t need any writing or reporting experience to win this competition, we are looking for a candidate willing to document the month-long stay and share details about how much things cost, what he or she does to stay busy, impressions of Cuenca and living overseas, likes, frustrations, pleasant surprises, and more. (If we use this reporting, we’ll compensate the winner at the current writer’s guideline rates, above and beyond the $1,500 living-expense stipend.)
How to Apply
To enter the “Win Your Dream Retirement Overseas” Competition, do this –
1) Post a video to YouTube (no more than 3 minutes in length) explaining why you would like to retire overseas – and try a one-month test-drive in Cuenca, Ecuador.
Please start the video with this sentence: “I’d/we’d like to win a dream test-drive retirement overseas with International Living because...”
If you’re entering the competition as a couple, then both of you should feature in this video.
2) Once your video is uploaded to YouTube, use the form here below to submit to International Living the link to your video and give us your contact details.

Timeline and Process for Choosing the Winner
March 15, 2012 – By midnight eastern U.S. time on March 15, 2012, all submissions are due. Any received after this date will NOT be considered.
April 2, 2012 – Choosing from all the submissions received, the International Living staff will post a shortlist of 20 finalists – uploading each of their videos to www.InternationalLiving.com.
April 2 – April 15, 2012 – The public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite videos among these 20 finalists at www.InternationalLiving.com. Taking those public votes into account – together with our own in-house preferences – we’ll narrow the finalists to three.
April 16 – May 29, 2012 – We’ll interview those three finalists by telephone, ask each to provide answers to three questions via email, and we’ll choose a winner.
May 30, 2012 – We’ll announce the winner on this page and in our free e-letter.

ETAPA inaugura nueva era en telecomunicaciones
Cuenca .- Inaugura la Red de Nueva Generación de Telecomunicaciones, con la cual se inicia la operación de multiservicios.
ETAPA se apresta a inaugurar la Red de Nueva Generación de Telecomunicaciones, con la cual se inicia la operación de multiservicios (voz, datos, video y valor agregado).
Esta Red, incrementará la cobertura del servicio telefónico en el cantón Cuenca, con 23.500 líneas.
Santiago López, gerente de ETAPA, destacó que este proyecto tiene un multipropósito, que es el de incorporar a Cuenca con tecnología de punta al que tengan acceso todos los sectores del cantón.
Detalló, que si bien se trata de una red de nueva tecnología, su costo de inversión, operación y mantenimiento, es menor.
Y, destaca la ampliación de 23.500 líneas; 224 puertos de banda ancha a los sectores rurales; 500 líneas multiservicio (Videotelefonía, uno de los fundamentales servicios).
Aparte, ETAPA incorpora 1.000 números IP CENTREX, un servicio para la empresa y la industria que reemplaza la centralilla normal por una virtual.
La contratación, de un solo servicio, a través de la Red de Nueva Generación, le ahorra al empresario costos de adquisición, operación, mantenimiento, tendido de red, que le representa las actuales centralillas.
Si bien la Red de Nueva Generación tiene una capacidad para 100.000 líneas, un proyecto de diseño para incrementar el servicio de 7 a 8 años, inicialmente serán explotadas 23.500.
Adicionalmente, ETAPA ampliará en el sector rural 12.000 líneas de acceso inalámbrico, servicio que será probado y comercializado a partir de enero de 2008. Inicialmente, 6.000 receptores están siendo adquiridos por ETAPA.
La inauguración de la Red de Nueva Generación, tendrá lugar en el Salón de la Ciudad, el jueves 8 de noviembre, a partir de las 18h00.
A la par, se hará el lanzamiento de nuevas tarifas y precios de los servicios, que comprende la rebaja en las llamadas de larga distancia internacional, banda ancha, y otros servicios.
¿Qué es una red de nueva generación?
Una red de Nueva generación NGN es una red Multiservicios capaz de manejar voz, datos y video, la que trabaja con interfases abiertos y utiliza tecnología de paquetes (IP) para transportar todo tipo de información; todo esto dentro de un escenario en el que se garantiza la calidad del servicio.
El Softswitch es el principal dispositivo dentro de una arquitectura NGN encargado de proporcionar el control de llamada (señalización y gestión de servicios), procesamiento de llamadas, y otros servicios.
El Softswitch adquirido por ETAPA está en capacidad de prestar todos los servicios suplementarios que ofrecen las centrales actuales de ETAPA, además de otros adicionales, que en total son más de 40 tipos de servicios suplementarios.

Cuenca, Ecuador Travel - Panama hats are the trademark of Cuenca, Ecuador's third-largest city - the misnamed toppers were first made in the Cuenca area and are still produced there. The town has an Old World, Spanish colonial feel—flower boxes on windows, wrought-iron balconies, red-tile roofs, cobblestone streets and a lively market (open Thursday, with a smaller market on Saturday). It's also a center for arts and crafts—many of the things sold in Quito and Guayaquil come from this area. Sights are cathedrals + convents.

Desfile en Cuenca
SE REALIZO EL DESFILE DE E.R.E. POR LOS DERECHOS DE LOS EMIGRANTES
EN EL PROGRAMA OFICIAL DE LAS FIESTAS DE CUENCA.
Hoy lunes 1 de Noviembre de 2004 se realizo el Gran Desfile de la Asociacion Mundial de Ecuatorianos Residentes en el Exterior, E.R.E., en la calle Bolivar desde el Parque San Blas hasta la Glorieta del Parque Calderon, en la ciudad de Santa Ana de los Cuatro Rios - Cuenca. En el marco del programa oficial de las fiestas de los 184 anos de independencia.
El desfile organizado por la Coordinadora de E.R.E.-Cuenca, Lic. Sandy Calle, comenzo con la banda de la Policia Comando Azuay No. 6
Estuvo presidido por el Gobernador de la Prov. del Azuay, Sr. Marcelo Batallas; la Hon. diputada por la Izquierda Democratica del Azuay, H. Ana Lucia Cevallos; la Presidenta de la E.R.E. , Sra. Elba Berruz; el Lic. Guillermo Sempertegui, delegado del Director de Educacion; El Lic. Stanlyn Valdivieso, E.R.E.-Manta; y un enorme letrero en el que se leia : " E.R.E. por los Derechos de los emigrantes y el Voto en el Exterior"
Las bandas y Colegios participantes en el desfile de los emigrantes fueron : Las Delegaciones del Colegio Corazon de Maria, Madres Oblatas; Colegio Carlos Julio Matovelle con el grupo de ninos de Sentimiento Folklorico; y, Las Guias de Protocolo de la Academia L´Chic Model de Cuenca.
Al comenzar el programa oficial en el Parque Calderon, frente a la catedral cuencana, la banda de la Policia toco las notas sagradas del himno Nacional del Ecuador y el de la Ciudad de Cuenca. Bajo la conduccion como Maestra de Ceremonia de la Lic. Sandy Calle, intervino, primeramente, el Gobernador de la Provincia del Azuay dando la bienvenida a la Presidenta de E.R.E. y al Sr. Marcelo Izquierdo, Vicepresidente del Comite Ecuador 2000.Comprometiendose a respaldar las justas aspiraciones del sufragio en el exterior. El discurso de rigor estuvo a cargo de la Presidenta de E.R.E. quien rindio homenaje a la Ciudad de Cuenca y sus fiestas novembrinas y recalco el mensaje directo de los emigrantes y sus organizaciones comunitarias, enfatizando: " Queremos votar en el exterior ", los emigrantes deseamos sufragar en el 2006". Tambien pidio que el Congreso Nacional trate en Segundo Debate la Ley del Emigrante. Acto seguido tomo la palabra la diputada Hon. Ana Lucia Cevallos, quien reporto sus visitas a New York e Italia y la importancia de trabajar con la diplomacia ecuatoriana en otros paises.
En el Show artistico intervinieron los cantantes: Duo Renacimiento, Diego Farez, Saul Chalco, El grupo Otavalo Vivo y el Grupo Kokoroco, delegacion japones del voluntariado en Cuenca.
A continuacion del Desfile de los Emigrantes, el programa de E.R.E. continuo en el Hotel Patrimonio donde ofrecieron una Conferencia de Prensa y un Almuerzo. Y, se lanzo el programa de television " Migracion Conexion Positiva " que saldra al aire muy pronto en el pais e internacionalmente.
Al caer la tarde en cuenca, la Presidenta de E.R.E. y su delegacion, asisiteron a una entrevista especial en el diario El Mercurio.
